The province of Semnan covers an area of 96816 square kilometers. From east it goes to Khorasan province, from north to Mazandaran and Golestan provinces, and from west to Tehran and Qom provinces.
Semnan is the capital of Semnan province. Damghan, Sharood and Garmsar are the other cities of this province. With a population of 185196, Semnan is 220km from Tehran, the capital of the country, and its distance from international waters of Persian Gulf and Caspian sea is 1600 and 400 kilometers, respectively. This province includes 4 township,12 counties,16 cities and 28 villages.

According to the latest statistics in 2018, the population of the province is estimated to be 702000 persons from which about 69 percent live in urban areas and 31percent are rural dwellers.
